Group of Researchers in Magdeburg Awarded for Publications about Guidance of Autonomous Vehicles and Intelligent Control over Data Networks

February 2010

Scientists from the Otto-von-Guericke-University in Magdeburg have been awarded with two prizes for their outstanding research work in the field of control as well as for an excellent presentation at a conference of all German Institutes and Laboratories in the control field. The research group of Prof. Rolf Findeisen, Laboratory for Systems Theory and Control, Institute for Automation Engineering of the University in Magdeburg won the "Best-Presentation-Award 2009" and the "Best-Paper-Award 2009" at the same time at the "44. Regelungstechnisches Kolloquium" in Boppard 2010.

PhD student Timm Faulwasser won the "Best-Presentation-Award 2009" of the colloquium for the presentation of his research work over control methods for autonomous vehicles and robots. The new method allows to guide the autonomous vehicle quick and precise at the same time along a given line. This work has a great input to further basic research in the field of control as well as for applications in the robotic field.

Furthermore a joint publication of Timm Faulwasser, Paolo Varutti, Benjamin Kern and Prof. Rolf Findeisen about control over digital networks had been awarded with the "Best-Paper-Award 2009" of the journal "at-Automatisierungstechnik", the leading German learned journal in the control field. The work focuses on future use of data networks in technical facilities to develop an intelligent control device that, in cases of disturbance, actively requests data via a wireless network.
